We completed our new "Bayview" room, which is a sunroom, last June. Our guests have enjoyed sitting in the comfortable chairs while sipping their morning coffee and watching the lobster boats in the bay. We now serve breakfast in both the dining room and in the Bayview room, which has five large sliding glass windows that provide beautiful views of the water and allow fresh ocean breezes to circulate.
Our guests have also enjoyed sitting in front of the Vermont style stove with a glass of wine or one of Larry's homemade desserts while viewing a spectacular sunset over Linekin Bay. Guests can read brochures of area attractions and magazines as they relax in this bright and airy room.
The Linekin Loft Now Has a Water View
We recently completed our latest construction project. Our friend and a wonderful carpenter, Jim Roberge, built an oak stairway from The Linekin Loft to the attic. The attic has been transformed into a loft room with a spectacular water view highlighted by a custom floor to ceiling window. This room is furnished with two comfortable overstuffed chairs and a Vermont style stove for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful water view. At the other end is a love seat that can be converted into a twin-sized bed. This room features white B-board walls and ceiling and wide pine board floor.
Several publications and guidebooks have had positive information about our B&B. One of our guests, who is a freelance writer for The Boston Globe, wrote an article about visiting the Boothbay area during the quiet season. Her travel section article was very kind to us and generated a number of inquiries and reservations.
Portland magazine did an article about being married along the coast of Maine. Linekin Bay B&B was noted as "having the nicest bridal suite in the Boothbay Region." We were also notified by Yankee Magazine that we have been chosen as one of their preferred inns.
We've also been fortunate to be listed in several guide books: Lonely Planet-New England, Waterside Escapes In The Northeast, Maine-An Explorer's Guide, and The Unofficial Guide to Bed & Breakfasts and Country Inns.
Again this year we are proud to announce our "Romantic Getaway Package." This special, which runs from March until the end of April 2002, includes a two-night stay at our B&B. A bottle of sparkling cider and crackers and cheese greet you when you check into your room. Next it's decision time as you have the choice of a $25 gift certificate to our local restaurant, The Carriage House, where you can enjoy a delicious entrée from their varied menu or choose two high-quality embroidered Linekin Bay B&B T-shirts from our E&E Holbrook Store.
If you are in the market for an oil or watercolor painting from one of the area's fine galleries, Corrine McIntyre of Ocean Point Studio/Visions of Maine located on Van Horn Road, is offering our guests 10% off.
The best part of this "Romantic Getaway Package" is the price. We are offering this package at regular off-season room rates. A two night stay in The Holbrook Suite is $220, The Linekin Loft $200, Rhapsody In Blue $190, and Crooked Chimney $180 (plus 7% room & lodging tax). Just remember to request "The Romantic Getaway Package" when you call to book.
Special Thanks to Our Repeat Guests
We would like to thank those guests who have made return stays to our B&B. We enjoy getting to know our guests and seeing familiar faces come through the door is a great pleasure.

.. There are 42 couples that have stayed with us two times. Again this year we experienced a higher occupancy rate than the previous year. In fact, we hit our highest occupancy rate of 96% in August. |
This past July we added a new member to our family. His name is Finnegan and he is an adorable, friendly Sheltie puppy. We got Finny from our good friends in Belfast, Maine, who are breeders and from whom we got Cubby and Goldie.
Finny has been "The Perfect Puppy." Don't we sound just like proud parents? He has been quite a hit with our guests and has taken on the role of greeter at the B&B. Many mornings there is a knock at the door and someone asking, "Can Finny come out to play before breakfast?" Our only concern is that someday Finny will be in a guest's suitcase as they are leaving because we hear comments that he would be a great pet!!
Our Shelties: Finny, Goldie & Cubby
CELEBRITY SHELTIES MAKE THE NEWS
Finny, Goldie, & Cubby are the talk of the Boothbay Region after getting their picture in The Boothbay Register. The accompanying article tells how The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast, owned by Larry Brown and Marti Booth, donated a bench for the Linekin Preserve in East Boothbay across the street from our B&B. The bench overlooks the Damariscotta River and will provide a resting spot for tired hikers or those who wish to sit and admire the view. The article states that Larry, who is a dedicated steward volunteer for the land trust, said the gift of the bench is just a way of paying back the land trust for all the enjoyment people get from the Boothbay Region Land Trust properties. Many of our guests hike Linekin and other land trust preserves.
WINTER ISSUE RECIPE
Chocolate Crunch Brownies
This recipe was added to our homemade afternoon dessert menu this year. It is very easy to make and was quite a hit with our guests.
1 pkg. Brownie mix
7 oz. Marshmallow crème
1 cup Peanut Butter
2 cups (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
3 cups crisp rice cereal
Make brownie mix according to package directions in 9 x 13 baking dish. Spread marshmallow crème over cooled brownies. In saucepan melt chocolate chips and peanut butter. Stir in crisp rice and spread over brownies.
2001 - Spring
Looking Forward to the Upcoming Season
After a long, and for us folks along the coast, a surprisingly snowy winter, it is great to see the days become longer and the sun’s rays warmer. This must mean that soon the flurry of activity at Linekin Bay B&B kicks into gear as we get ready to welcome guests to our inn.
Let’s see what has been going on and what you can look forward to.
DECK BECOMES AN ALL-SEASON ROOM
Our good friend and web page designer, David Gudas, told a story one time about a couple who were sitting on their deck and discussed how it would be great to have a roof over their deck so that they could get more use out of it. Next, they decided to install windows and winterize it so they could use it year round. This all worked out very well until one day when the wife mentioned that she now needed to have another deck built.
Hopefully, Marti and I will not have this same problem as we have discussed at length the advantages of converting our deck to an all season room. It will allow guests to enjoy breakfast, afternoon beverages and desserts, or an evening glasses of wine while enjoying views of Linekin Bay no matter what the weather brings.
We’ve been planning this 16’ X 23’ room with our resident contractor, Jim Roberge, who has come up with many great ideas to maximize light and view. He will be starting this project in April and if the weather cooperates our May guests will be enjoying it.
We now have a toll free telephone number 800-596-7420. Please make note, as it is new and not listed on our brochures.
NEW ADDRESS
Don’t worry, we are still at the same location, but with an E-911 system scheduled to go on line this year, we have a number address: 531 Ocean Point Road which replaces HC 65 Box 771.
DOWN EAST MAGAZINE
The April 2001 issue of Down East features an article titled “The Quiet Side of Boothbay.” Author Elizabeth Peavey points out what we all know,
“Largely eclipsed by the reputation of Boothbay Harbor, the little village of East Boothbay is by any measure one of the loveliest coastal communities in Maine. Fairly self-contained, still populated mostly by Mainers, and home to a successful boat building industry, it is also dotted with comfortable inns and B&Bs and great places to eat.”
Many great photos compliment this article, which focuses in on the less explored areas in The Boothbay Region.
BOOTHBAY REGION HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Boothbay Region is rich in history and this is showcased at our historical society located at 72 Oak St. just across from the time & temperature sign at The first Bank of Damariscotta. There are seven rooms displaying everything from a lighthouse light, shipbuilding photos and tools, to photos of many of the grand old hotels and buildings which make our area so interesting to learn about.
Open 10-4 Wed., Fri., & Sat. during the summer and 10-2 on Sat. during the rest of the year, the historical society is free. They do offer a wide assortment of books for sale,
which detail the history of the area. This year they are holding a raffle for a framed, original oil painting by Alden Stickney ofThe Steamer Virginia. Larry was recently asked to become a trustee on the board and graciously accepted.
Now a somewhat historical question about the Boothbay Region, “What famous musical staring Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae was filmed here in the summer of 1955?” Mention the correct answer when you check in this summer and receive an extra homemade dessert.
The following is a letter Larry wrote to Arrington’s B&B Journal, a national publication, which was included in the Feb. 2001 issue “All Inn A Days Work"
My wife and I purchased a home built in 1878 in the mid-coast town of East Boothbay, Maine with the intention of renovating it and establishing a B&B. The house was in dire need of TLC and the project turned into what can best be described as a snowball going down a mountain. It just kept getting bigger and bigger.
We learned two facts about renovations very early into the project: 1) It always takes longer than what you expect and 2) It always costs more.
As we live in a seasonal area, we planned on opening Memorial Day weekend, but kept pushing back the opening as construction was far from finished. In June a caller inquired if we would be open by Labor Day. “Sure” I said thinking that we would definitely be ready by then. I booked our first reservation.
As the summer wore on and Labor Day approached, my wife was less than happy with me for booking this reservation. Working seven days a week from morning to night and with the help of family and friends, we just made it! It was so tight that Thursday morning we were assembling the bed our guests would sleep in when they arrived Friday night.
Our guests, a wonderful couple from New Hampshire, turned out to be an innkeeper’s dream. I could not have chosen a nicer couple for our first guests. Just before they left, they gave my wife and I a beautiful compass and said, “We hope this compass helps everyone find their way to Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast.”
In the two years that we have been open, this couple has stayed with us five times. Equally complimentary is their referral of two other couples who have stayed with us.
This past April when we lost our Sheltie of 11 years, they sent us a sympathy card. Having guests like these leaves little doubt in our mind that we have chosen a great profession.

Three Diamond Ratings from AAA
For the second year in a row we have received a Three-Diamond Rating from AAA and are very pleased that we are rated in this category. According to the AAA rating guide Three Diamond Properties “offer a degree of sophistication, additional amenities, services and facilities may be offered, and there is a noticeable upgrade in physical attributes, services, and comfort.”
Tour Books
We are listed in two tour books. “The Unofficial Guide to Bed & Breakfasts in New England” 1st edition and“Lonely Planet-New England” both have descriptions and short write-ups about us. The first tour book gave us a rating and noted, “His fresh-baked cookies are great with tea or cider and their philosophy is no one should leave the table hungry.”
Lonely Planet, a publication popular with our European travelers, mentions: “The village of East Boothbay, 2 miles from Boothbay harbor, is not as touristy or commercialized as Boothbay Harbor. It’s a lot more like the real Maine. The Linekin Bay B&B is owned by an extremely amicable former police officer.” A former guest was responsible for getting us into this book.
Along with The Greenleaf Inn and Lion d’Or B&B in Boothbay Harbor we will be putting together a Murder Mystery Weekend on February 2nd and 3rd. On Friday night all guests from the three inns will meet at The Greenleaf Inn for a welcoming party where Christopher’s Boathouse will cater scrumptious hors d’oeuvres and the murder mystery will begin. This will be a BYOB event and Jeff, the owner of the Greenleaf Inn, will supply mixes.
This is a “guest participation program” where everyone will play a character in the murder mystery. You will be given a character and other information before you come here for the weekend. All guests will meet for wine and dinner at Christopher’s Boathouse on Saturday night where we will conclude the mystery. Perhaps you will be the super sleuth who solves the mystery.
Space is limited, so if you’d like to come to the Maine Coast, stay at a romantic Victorian bed & breakfast overlooking Linekin Bay, and solve a murder, please let us know. The weekend Murder Mystery package includes a two night stay at the Linekin Bay B&B with two full breakfasts, the Friday evening get-together at the Greenleaf Inn with catered hors d’oeuvres, and wine and dinner at Christopher’s Boathouse on Saturday night. The cost for the package is $400 per couple.
Included with printed copies of Ebb Tidings is one of our new postcards. Arriving guests will have two stamped postcards in their rooms. Just fill it out and we’ll mail it for you.
Front | Back |
We’re happy to make it easier for you to send a postcard to your friends or relatives. Especially those who someday might be looking for a B&B to stay at. Pretty effective way of advertising for 25 cents, wouldn’t you say?
Again this year we are proud to announce our “Romantic Getaway Package.” This special, which runs from January until the end of April, includes a two-night stay at our B&B. A bottle of sparkling cider and cheese and crackers will greet you when you check into your room, which features a fireplace and spectacular view of Linekin Bay.
Next, it’s decision time as you have the choice of a $25 gift certificate to our local restaurant, The Carriage House, where you can enjoy a fine entrée from their varied menu or choose 2 high quality embroidered Linekin Bay B&B T-shirts from our E & E Holbrook Store.
One of the nicest things about East Boothbay is Ocean Point. Many people start their day with a walk or jog along the twisting road to see the sunrise, listen to the foghorn on Ram Island or watch a lobster boat heading out to sea. Evening brings its own beauty with sunsets that are spectacular.
This brings us to another part of your package. You will receive a coupon for 2 subs, 2 sodas or bottles of water and complimentary pastries from the historic East Boothbay General Store. Take this picnic to Ocean Point where you can sit on the rocks and enjoy a breathtaking view. Marsh & Tammy Irving have made a point of having The East Boothbay General Store known for its great sandwiches, pastries, and wines.
How about an original painting from watercolorist Richard Secor of School Street Gallery or a beautiful photograph by his wife Melissa Goodwin? Both of their works are on display at our inn. As part of your package you will receive a coupon good for 10% off the price of a painting or photograph on display throughout our inn.
You will also receive a 10% off coupon from Mack Bear Gallery and Unique Gift Shop. George & Susan Bear feature original stained glass kaleidoscopes and unique glass art. They are located one-half mile from our inn and will be open by appt. during the quiet season. Larry will be happy to make the call for you.
Ocean Point Studio/Visions of Maine located on Van Horn Road features oil and watercolor paintings. Owner Corrine McIntyre focuses her paintings on the coastal landscape that she loves so dearly. She is offering our guests 10% off.
So you say what is the cost for this “Romantic Getaway Package?” For The Holbrook Suite it is $230, Rhapsody in Blue is $200, and Crooked Chimney is $190 (plus 7% room & lodging tax).
SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR REPEAT GUESTS

¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup chopped red or green pepper

Looking for a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas present for that special friend, relative, or person in your life? How about a gift certificate for a stay at The Linekin Bay B&B? We can make arrangements so that the entire stay is paid for, or you could elect to pay a set amount towards the stay. We offer an elegant gift certificate.
2000 - Spring
The days are getting longer, the sun feels warmer, and the traffic is starting to pick up. This can only mean one thing in the Boothbay Region-The Tourists Are Coming and here at Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast we can’t wait!
Enclosed is our new brochure. We are very excited about it and we are especially pleased with the color photos taken by Boothbay’s own Robert Mitchell. Bob has done an excellent job in capturing the character and charm of our bed & breakfast.
Thanks to the guests who offered their recommendations that we consider a new brochure as the old one did not do our inn justice. Our goal is to have a brochure that catches your eye and the initial reaction we have received indicates that it is working.
Always keeping in mind the comfort of our guests, we have been busy during the winter making some changes in décor and amenities.
An upholstered chaise lounge and antique rocking chair have replaced the wicker inRhapsody In Blue, whileThe Linekin Loft now has Queen Anne chairs. | Rhapsody in Blue |
The Linekin Loft | Crooked Chimney |
The response from our guests was so great for the Vermont style stoves, we decided to put one in Crooked Chimney. It has really been great having them in three of our rooms during the “Quiet Season” as we found guests like to enjoy the ambiance of a fire while looking out onto Linekin Bay on a starry night.
Common Room | Common Room |
Two new wing back chairs in the common room make for additional seating so that eight guests can comfortably read, play board games, or just relax and talk to new people.
OUTSIDE CHANGES
We can’t wait for warmer temperatures so that we can start our landscaping projects. One problem we have corrected is that of people driving by and not being aware that we have a beautiful water view. Larry has cleared scrub brush on the suite end of the inn where we will be expanding the parking area and adding a perennial garden. The overgrown area at the back of the house has been cleared and will now be seeded for a larger lawn and another perennial garden. Even the old boathouse now has lights. We did this for guests who bring bicycles or other large articles. We will be able to store them in the boathouse.
TELEPHONES AVAILABLE
IN GUEST ROOMS
One of our goals for the 2000 season was to have telephones available for our guests use. We now have telephones in all our guestrooms, which allow for outgoing calls and Internet access. Local calls are free, and you can use your phone cards for long distance.
In keeping with our theme of “A Truly Unique Bed & Breakfast Experience,” Larry has been trying new recipes for our upcoming season.
New entries include: Decadent French Toast with blueberries, an apricot-pecan French Toast, with its own special sauce, and crab quiche. Sweet cornbread and orange-date muffins will also be offered.
The homemade afternoon desserts menu has expanded to include Triple Layer Cookie Bars and Chocolate-Peanut Butter Dreams.
Watercolorist Richard Secor and his wife, photographer Melissa Goodwin are pleased to announce that their web site is up and running.
Created by our web designer, David Gudas of Lewiston, Maine, the School Street Gallery features many of Dick and Melissa’s works which feature coastal scenes and landscapes. Their web page also displays Dick’s Southwest watercolors.
Dick and Melissa are offering all Linekin Bay B&B guests 10% off on any watercolors or photographs on display at the inn or in their gallery. We know that this excellent web site will allow many people to view the work of these talented artists. Best of luck Dick and Melissa!
In February we hosted The Boothbay Chamber of Commerce for its monthly meeting. Larry is enjoying his time on the board of directors since becoming involved last November.
On March 14th the Boothbay Region Historical Society held its board meeting here. Local historian and board member Barbara Rumsey has been very helpful in assisting us in researching the history of our house.
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens have made us part of their tour this year, which is being held in East Boothbay on June 29th and 30th. Paticipants will be able to tour our inn and enjoy homemade desserts on our deck.
We have been in touch with Wayne Moore, owner of Cabbage Island Clambakes, who said that he will be able to accommodate an extra 20 people on each boat trip this year.
For those of you who have not experienced these clambakes, look at our web site for Scenes of East Boothbay-Cabbage Island Clambakes. There are photos and a complete description.
To get to Cabbage Island, which you can see from our B&B, you board a large boat at Boothbay Harbor for a guided tour to the island.
After being greeted by Wayne, you can get ready for A true New England Clam Bake which includes: fish chowder, 2 lobsters, clams, corn, onion, potato, all cooked over an open hard wood fire! Topped off with homemade blueberry cake, plus all the coffee and ice tea you’d like.
After the meal, if you can still walk, feel free to play volleyball, horseshoes, or explore the island. If you stand in just the right spot, you can see the peak of our B&B.
The cost is $39.95 per person. The boat leaves Boothbay Harbor at 12:30 a.m. Mon.-Sat. and returns around 4:00 p.m. On Saturday there is also a 5:00 p.m. bake, while on Sunday there are 2 bakes at 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.
Cabbage Island Clambakes run from June 25-Sept. 15. Reservations are strongly recommended as last year most of the bakes were sold out by the end of June. Call 207-633-7200.
Classic Sour Cream Waffles
These have become a staple at our B&B. Their tender cake-like interior are so light you could eat stacks of them especially when topped with Maine maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream. It is a favorite of one of our twelve year old guests, Sam.

Sift the dry ingredients into a bowl and set aside. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks, sour cream, and milk. Gradually whisk the dry batter into the liquid just until smooth. Gently stir in the melted butter. Let the batter sit for several minutes. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff. Fold the whites into the batter. Ladle the batter into a preheated waffle iron and cook 4-5 minutes.
2000 - Winter
We are pleased to announce our “Romantic Getaway Weekend Package.” This special which runs from January until Memorial Day Weekend includes a two night stay and:
A bottle of sparkling cider and cheese and crackers will greet you when you check into your room, which features a fireplace and spectacular view of Linekin Bay. Later, after you have settled in and the stress of your week starts to peel away, come into our dining room where a candle lit table and a delicious dinner are waiting.
The menu will vary from fresh fish chowder to pasta dishes and warm breads. Save room for one of our homemade desserts. Before retiring to your room, how about challenging your partner to one of the many board games available in the common room.
One of the best things about East Boothbay is Ocean Point.
Many people start their day with a walk or jog along the twisting road to see the sunrise, listen to the fog horn on Ram Island, and watch a lobster boat head out to sea. Evening brings its own beauty of a sunset, which words alone cannot describe. You really have to experience the sun glistening off the water where on some days it looks like the sky is on fire.
This brings us to another part of your package. You will receive a coupon for two subs, two sodas or bottles of water and complimentary pastries from the historic East Boothbay General Store. Take this picnic to Ocean Point where you can sit on the rocks and enjoy the view. Marsh & Tammy Irving have made a point of having The East Boothbay General Store known for its great subs, pastries, and wines.
Thinking about bringing a piece of the Maine coast back with you? How about an original watercolor from Linekin Bay B&B exhibiting watercolorist Richard Secor of School Street Gallery or a beautiful photograph by his wife Melissa Goodwin. Both of their works are on display at our inn. As part of your package, you will receive a coupon for 10% off the price of a painting or photograph at either our inn or The School Street Gallery.
You will also receive a 10% off coupon from Mack Bear Gallery and Unique Gift Shop. George & Susan Bear feature original lighthouse paintings, stained glass creations, lunarveres, kaleidoscopes, shellery, illuminates, and driftwood art. They are located one-half mile from our inn and will be open by appointment during the quiet season. Larry will be happy to make the call for you.
Ocean Point Studio/Visions of Maine located on Van Horn Road features oil and watercolor paintings. Owner Corrine McIntyre focuses her paintings on her unending inspiration, the coastal landscape that she loves so dearly and the grandeur, joy and contentment found in this unique magical place. She is offering our guests 10% off from January 1 to May 1.
So you say what is the cost for this “Romantic Getaway Package?” For The Holbrook Suite it is $220 and Rhapsody in Blue is $180 (plus 7% room & lodging tax).
For those of you who enjoy this type of thing, here’s what happened at our B&B during the past year. We rented 522 rooms, served 1,052 breakfasts, and broke a lot of eggs.
We had eleven couples spend their honeymoons with us, while twenty celebrated anniversaries. Our guests came from all over the United States - 39 states and from all over the globe - England, Germany, Switzerland, Bermuda, & Canada. We had joggers, hikers, kayakers, cyclists, plus those who took the whole inn for a family get-together, weddings, and reunions. I even think some guests had a lobster or two.
Can’t think of a birthday or anniversary present for that special person in your life? How about a gift certificate for a stay at The Linekin Bay B&B?
We can make the arrangements so that the entire stay is paid for, or you could elect to pay a set amount towards the stay. We offer an elegant gift certificate, which can be sent out so that you can surprise your special person.
On Leap Year Day Tuesday Feb. 29, we will be hosting a Boothbay Region Adult Ed. course at our inn for people interested in learning about starting a bed & breakfast. Along with a tour, participants will learn how the former E. & E. Holbrook home and store built in 1878 became The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast in 1998.
Larry & Marti will answer the question “Is running an inn the way we remembered it from The Bob Newhart show, or is there a bit more work? While they answer this question, guests will be sampling our homemade desserts. Don’t worry if you can’t make the course, as we will be more than happy to give you a tour and save one of our homemade desserts just for you.
One of the jewels of our peninsula is the properties of The Boothbay Region Land Trust. We always enjoy being able to take our two Shelties for a walk at one of the six properties, all of which have great water views.
A recently completed 93-foot wooden span footbridge arches over the salt marsh between the Ovens Mouth Preserve. It was quite a project because after the concrete abutments were complete, the beams were brought by special barge to the area. On the high tide, the barge was floated over the old ice dam and onto location. As the tide went out the beams settled onto concrete abutments for what the contractor described as “a perfect fit.”
The completed span is so picturesque that it has been compared to a Monet painting. A formal dedication with Gov. Angus King is planned later in the year. In the meantime hikers who wish to explore both of the Ovens Mouth properties are enjoying the footbridge.
Warm Spice Fruit Dish
With the coming of winter, when warm foods act in a dual capacity, I serve a warm spice fruit dish. It also works well because with the exception of apples, you use canned fruit, which is not as costly as fresh fruit at this time of year.
Ingredients:
- 1 -16 oz. can sliced peaches
- 1 -15 oz can pineapple chunks
- 1 -16 oz. can sliced pears
- 1 -17 oz. can apricot halves
- 2 -Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled, & sliced
- 1 -stick butter or margarine melted
- ¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
Topping:
- ¼ cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ¼ cup butter or margarine melted
Drain and combine the canned and fresh fruits. Melt the butter and add the brown sugar and spices. Stir into the fruits. Place in a 9 by 13 glass pan. Next, for topping mix all ingredients together with the melted butter or margarine. Sprinkle over the fruit. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve warm by itself or top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. This is one of those recipes, which makes the kitchen smell great!

1999 - Fall
Our first full season went beyond our wildest expectations! Thanks to referrals from other bed and breakfasts in the area, our web page, the local chambers, referrals from guests, and Mother Nature who blessed us with a great summer, our occupancy rate was over 80%. Pretty good for a new business in its first full year.
In fact as the season went on many of the calls we received requesting information on availability unfortunately went like this, "I'm sorry, but we're full on those dates." Some of our guests have already booked their dates for next year so that they can be assured of getting the room they want.
Renovations and Changes at the Inn
In order to encourage guests to come and enjoy our bed & breakfast in the "Quiet Season" we have added two fireplaces.
One is in the Common Room and the other is in our guestroom, "Rhapsody in Blue." It just makes everything so cozy when you snuggle up with a glass of wine (or beverage of your choice) and a loved one in front of a fire. | Common Room Stove |
Rhapsody in Blue Room Stove | Can't talk that spouse or significant other into getting away for the weekend, but you still want to enjoy all the hospitality of our B&B, the fireplaces, and beautiful views of Linekin Bay? Why not consider coming by yourself with a good book? |
Mark your calendars for The Early Bird Sale on Saturday, November 20, 1999 and Harbor Lights Festival on Saturday, December 4, 1999. The Early Bird Sale has storeowners welcoming shoppers with early opening hours and discount pricing that starts at the highest percentage at opening. Special prizes and discounts are offered for those who come dressed in their pajamas or sleeping attire. Come join the fun!
Harbor Lights Festival is a day and night full of activities from Christmas caroling, and Santa coming in on a lobster boat, to the parade of decorated, lighted boats in Boothbay Harbor.
Both events are well worth a trip to the Boothbay Region and what better way to enjoy them than with a stay at The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast |
Cubby and Kelly, our two Shelties, are lonely. During the summer they were kept busy greeting guests and welcoming them to The Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast. Now that we are in the "quiet season," they don't have as many guests to greet.
Cubby & Kelly
To help them keep in shape for next season, we are offering "The Cubby & Kelly Special" where if you book a Saturday night and then add either a Friday or Sunday, the second night is half price. So, when you call, please remember to mention The Cubby and Kelly Special. This special runs from November until March. |
There was a lot of excitement at our B&B on Friday September 10th when a German-American production company filmed a scene for the movie "Lonesome." The crew set up equipment in The Holbrook Suite to film the scene and they also utilized the side porch, common and dinning rooms. Two of our guests, an English couple from the Bahamas, were filmed as they were enjoying their afternoon tea on the front porch. It was a memorable trip to Maine for this couple as they became engaged and made an appearance in a movie!
"Lonesome" is the story of a young girl from a wealthy family who runs away from home and meets a cowboy who picks her up hitchhiking. The parents can't accept that their daughter would run away, so they report that she has been kidnapped. The mother, played by French actress Marisa Berenson, who has appeared in "Cabaret" and Clint Eastwood's "White Thunder," tries to track down her daughter.
As this film crew is on a low budget, they didn't have any funds for compensation. This was fine with us as it was exciting to have the scene filmed here, plus it felt good to be able to help them out. We will receive recognition during the movie credits, along with a video of the movie and tickets to the Maine premier.
The complete story, which appeared in The Boothbay Register along with photographs, is included on our web site.
Honeymoon and Anniversary Celebrations
Love was definitely in the air at our inn this past season. Seven couples spent their honeymoons here and at last count sixteen couples have celebrated anniversaries.
The millennium appears bright as two honeymoon couples are returning to our inn to celebrate their first anniversaries and one couple has reserved three nights for their 46th anniversary. |
Please keep in mind that we would be happy to make any arrangements you request to make your stay at our inn special. Over the past season we have provided special baskets filled with champagne or wine, fruit, chocolate, cheese/crackers and freshly baked goods, which guests have requested. For the anniversary couple, we can order flowers to have in your room on your arrival. Just give us a couple of days notice and your request will be waiting when you arrive.
During the season we have had requests for recipes of our breakfast offerings. Larry is always happy to share any of these. So, a regular section of our newsletter will be to print one of these. "Peach Linekin" is the feature for this edition of Ebb Tidings.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups skim milk
- 2 tablespoons vanilla
- 4 eggs-slightly beaten
- 5 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
- 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. Salt (if desired)
- 1/4 CUP margarine or butter melted
- 2 cups chopped, frozen unsweetened sliced peaches (canned peaches can be substituted as long as they are packed in unsweetened juice)
1) Spray 13 X 9 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In large bowl, combine milk, vanilla, eggs and blend well. Add oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt, and mix well. Stir in margarine and peaches until well combined. Pour mixture into sprayed dish; cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight.
2) Heat oven to 350, uncover dish and bake 40-45 minutes or until slightly puffed and golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Cut into squares; place in individual bowls. Optional - place fresh peaches around and yogurt or cream on top.
1999 - Summer
This is the first edition of what we hope will be a regular way to keep in touch with friends and guests about what is going on at the Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast.
As many of you already know we opened our inn to our first guests on Labor Day weekend. We had a very successful fall season as each weekend we were booked along with many weekday nights. We have remained open throughout the winter and have been encouraged with the number of guests that we have had during the "quiet season."
During this time construction has continued on our fourth room, "The Holbrook Suite" ,which was just recently completed.
This room features a king size cherry Rice carved post pediment bed, a Hearthstone gas fireplace, sofa bed, wing back chair, and a ceiling fan which graces the high ceilings. A television with cable is set in an armoire. The bath has an antique claw foot bathtub, corner shower, tile floor, and pedestal sink. The room has its own outside private entrance from a long porch where you can enjoy one of our beautiful sunsets while rocking in a wicker chair.
Its name comes from brothers Ezekiel and Eliphalet Holbrook who built this magnificent ten room house in 1878. They used proceeds from their very successful store E. & E. Holbrook Store to build the house. One reason for their success is that their store supplied all goods and many services for the workers at the pogie factories located on Linekin Bay. For the whole story check out the history section of our web page.
We are very excited about our new web site (www.linekinbaybb.com) which went on line April 28th. Our good friend and retired Lewiston Police detective David Gudas has put his heart and soul into this project and the results show it. In his very creative manner, which has garnered Dave an award for the web page he created for the Lewiston Police Dept., you can not only see many photographs of our B&B, but also hear such sounds as Marti and Larry greeting you and our 120 year old door bell.
The reaction we have had so far is very positive as now people can see all of our guest rooms, common areas, and the grounds and really see just how beautiful everything is. How does the old saying go " A picture is worth ..."
We are fortunate again this year to have local artist Richard Secor displaying his works at our inn. This is a win/win arrangement for both of us as we are fortunate to have lovely paintings throughout the house and it gives Dick another opportunity for people to see his work and hopefully stop in at School Street Gallery owned by he and his wife Melissa.
Their gallery is also located in East Boothbay just a mile and a half from our inn.
One of the reasons that we decided to open our bed and breakfast in the Boothbay Region is because of the land trust properties which are available for hiking, sight seeing, and bird watching. The Boothbay Region Land Trust protects 758 acres on the peninsula. One of these properties is located a stone's throw from our front door.
Linekin Preserve Trailhead
Linekin Preserve just down the street includes 651 feet of frontage on the Damariscotta River and 2.35 miles of hiking trails. It is just one of six land trust properties which offer hiking trails. So remember if you come to the Boothbay Region, don't forget your hiking boots.
Another reason we wanted to have our inn in the Boothbay Region is because of everything the area has to offer. The "Harbor" as locals refer to Boothbay Harbor offers a multitude of shops, restaurants, puffin and whale watches, lighthouses and sunset cruises, and schooner sailings.
Throughout the year we have events such as Fisherman's Festival, Windjammer Days, Harbor Jazz Weekend, Fall Foliage Festival, and the Harbor Lights Festival.
Add to this fireworks displays during Windjammer Days and July third, plus all the events throughout the year at the Boothbay Railway Village and you can see how Boothbay is a great place to spend your vacation on the lovely Maine coast.
Our resident contractor Jim Roberge of Sawdust Builders showed his great building skills again. He and Larry built a 16’ by 25’ deck off the back of the house. Now guests can enjoy their morning coffee or afternoon dessert while they sit on a lounge chair and enjoy the beautiful views of Linekin Bay.
During the summer guests will also have the option of having breakfast served to them at the umbrella table on this deck. The new deck can also be seen in our Common Areas web site section.
This is our first full season so most of the summer we still have rooms available. Still, a word to the wise, each week we take a couple of reservations for summer bookings and our guest book is starting to fill in. If you have a specific date that you would like to stay with us, please call so that you can be assured of getting the day and room you would like.
MONOGRAMMED POLO SHIRTS, T-SHIRTS, CAPS, & CANVAS TOTE BAGS
This season we are offering polo shirts, T-shirts, caps, & canvas tote bags embroidered with our logo of the beautiful stained glass sign which shows a sailboat on Linekin Bay.
All of these items are of high quality and the different colors chosen compliment the colors used in the logo. So before you hit the souvenir shops, be sure to check out the Linekin Bay Bed & Breakfast collection.
